Bond

Bond

The bond of grinding wheel is for the purpose of holding the abrasive grains of cutting edges. It is also to withstand a grinding force and rotary stress and simultaneously need characters to generate the abrasive grains adequately in accordance with the increase of grinding force by abrasive grain wear.

Type of bonds
The bond is divided into 5 types (i.e. Vitrified (V), Resinoid (B), Rubber (R), Metal (M), Electroplated (P)). The application of bond should be selected in accordance with individual character.

Disposition of Bond and Major Application

Grinding wheel
per bond
Feature Disposition Major application
Vitrified grinding wheel (V)
  • Grinding wheel bonding abrasive grains by firing finely crushed and mixed ceramics raw materials such as feldspar, pottery stone, clay, etc., at high temperature.
  • Easy to be made at grade for large scale.
  • Retention of abrasive grain is strong.
  • Coolant is not influenced.
  • Mature is not found, and quality is stable.
  • Most widely used.
  • Precision grinding
  • Cylindrical grinding (crank cam)
  • Honing
  • Pulp stone
  • Super finishing
Resinoid grinding wheel (B)
  • Grinding wheel bonding abrasive grains by firing thermosetting resin (phenol resin, etc.) mainly at low temperature.
  • Adequate stiffener or additive can be used since it is fired at low temperature.
  • It has elasticity more than vitrified and transverse rupture strength is also strong. Consequently, it can be used at quick wheel speed.
  • Since it has elasticity, shock is less while grinding. It can be used for rough grinding.
  • Since bond is burned down together with grinding sparks, loading does not occur.
  • High pressure, high speed free grinding
  • Roll grinding
  • Special tool grinding
  • Cut off wheel (dry)
  • Offset grinder
  • Disc surface grinding
Rubber grinding wheel (R)
  • Grinding wheel bonding abrasive grain by hard ebonite of natural or synthetic ebonite structure.
  • It is elasticity grinding wheel.
  • It is used in wet grinding to prevent it from softening by grinding heat.
  • Centerless control grinding wheel
  • Cutting (wet)
Metal grinding wheel (M)
  • Grinding wheel bonding diamond abrasive grains by metallic power.
  • Since retention of abrasive grain is strong and resistant to heat, service life is long.
  • Grinding that require good shape retention and long life
  • Cutting for natural stone and concrete
Electroplated grinding wheel (P)
  • Grinding wheel bonding single abrasive grains layer by Nickel electroplating.
  • Good cutting ability because of high grain protrusion.
  • Enable a complicated wheel shape.
  • High feed rate grinding
  • Form grinding
